Bringing super-fast broadband to the Cairngorms and beyond

Cairngorm Broadband

About the project

Cairngorm Broadband – The Background of the Project

The Cairngorms and surrounding areas are very poorly served by BT’s legacy copper broadband network. Whilst some properties are set to be served under the Scottish Government’s R100 fibre contract, around 1500 homes and businesses have been deemed to be technically and or/commercially unviable by BT, and therefore won’t be served under either the R100 scheme or commercial deployment plans.

Recognising this serious challenge for rural communities, the Scottish Government have made grants available to all unserved properties. The grant can be used with a registered supplier on the Government’s Broadband Voucher Scheme framework, and would ideally be aggregated with others to form the capital budget for the deployment of new infrastructure.

As a supplier on the scheme, we are creating a new super-fast network serving a large part of the Cairngorm National Park, together with the areas to the North and East which will fall within our proposed coverage area.

The Cairngorm Broadband network is operated by Scotnet – Scotland’s largest rural broadband provider. With offices in Inverness and Grantown-on-Spey, we are ideally placed to provide high-quality services with excellent support and maintenance.
